2022 in Watches

Being an avid watch lover, I can thankfully say that 2022 was a good year for my collection. Over 10 watches, and here are some of my favorite additions.

Zenith Defy Skeleton 40

The year started with this watch. I’ve had my eyes on this watch for years, the titanium case and bracelet, the skeleton dial, the case size, everything about the watch is perfect.

On my birthday my wife surprised me with this watch and to this day it’s the watch I always find reaching to pick this watch and have it over my all the other watches in my collection.

Zenith is a watch company that has a special place in my heart. My dad owns a Zenith Academy in two tone gold and steel on this beautiful ostrich leather bracelet. I grew up admiring it on my father’s wrist. So, owning a watch from Zenith is more than admiration for the watch brand that I love but it has a personal connection for me.

For that I am forever grateful for my wife.

Longines Spirit Zulu Time GMT

The moment I saw the pictures of these on Instagram and fell in love with it. Attempted to reserve one from the boutique here in Kuwait, but they weren’t much help. Luckily, I had a trip coming up after the release date, and the chase was on…

Checked the boutiques in Milan and Paris, until me and my wife got lost in Geneva and found the boutique there, and they HAD the watch, not on a steel bracelet but it didn’t matter!

One of my favorite watch complications is the GMT complication. The 42mm case size, with the dark green ceramic bezel was the icing on the cake. All that’s left for me right now is to order the steel bracelet, even though I love the black/grey camo rubber strap on it.

Cartier Tank Solo

Owning this watch has opened my eyes to a lot of things. Most importantly it’s the fact the customer service makes the customer want to come back and become a loyal customer. Not gonna lie but I did purchase this watch second hand, but visiting the boutique, and working with the interaction with their team every time I walked into the place has left a huge mark on me.

Which is why I’m planning one of my next watches will be the Cartier Santos Medium, the beauty, history, and the customer service at Cartier made the decision easier than ever.

Brew Metric

Baby blue square case, what more can I say?

Brew Watch Company has the spiritual connection with coffee, which I can proudly say “I do too”.

Everything about this piece screams me! The steel bracelet, the dial color, the sweeping chronometer function (even though the watch is a quartz). I truly love it!

Shout out to @Tokei_Ronin for the hookup!

Buler AstroMaster

SOOOO this watch has some interesting history and controversy behind it. The Buler AstroMaster is an early to mid 70’s watch. According to some sources online, Buler either used to make telescopes and decided to make watches, or it’s the actual Buler watch company which in a sense disappeared for the watch scene in the 90’s.

The AstroMaster, is something of controversy itself, the design resembles the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in a lot of ways, which was released around the same time. Which raises the questions…?

West End Co. Prima

West End Co. is the first watch company to be sold here in the GCC and holds a special place in the hearts of everyone here in the region.

This watch may not look like much, but the sentimental value of this watch is incomparable. This is my late grandfather’s watch. He passed away a couple of months ago, and it still hurts. I miss him beyond belief. He purchased this watch over 60 years ago and would have it on his wrist whenever he travelled, or left Failaka Island.

I purchased a watch similar but an updated version of the same watch a couple of years ago, and my father immediately called dibs and took it. But to have this as part of my collection will forever be something I will always cherish.
