Dennison ADL
Stone dials are hot now, and I mean extremely hot on the market right now. With the Piaget Andy Warhl and other stone dial watches being sought after more than they have been in the past. With that being the case, a phoenix is reborn.
Dennison is reborn. A watch company that was started over 175 years ago by the British American Aaron Lufkin Dennison. The company started as a manufacturer of watch cases, creating watch cases for some of the industries’ most renowned brands, including Rolex, Omega, IWC, Zenith, and Jaegar LeCoutlre. In 2016 Dennison was reborn.
Dennison released their first watch line the Dennison ALD. A watch that was designed by the son of the same man whose watches are hot on the market, Jean-Claude Gueit. His son, Emmanuel designed the ALD, which in my humble opinion is a lot better looking than his father’s design of the Piaget Andy Warhol. Don’t take Emmanuel’s work lightly, he does have some experience in watch designs, including the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore, and the Rolex Cellini and watches for Piaget, Hermes and Harry Winston as part of his portfolio.
The ALD comes in a perfect 37mm case that can be finished either in polished stainless steel, or stainless steel with a gold PVD coating. The bezel, compared to the Andy Warhol is extremely smaller, but what sets this watch apart is the dial. Coming in in different stone and wood dials, that are actual stone and wood means that no two watches are identical. That means if you bought two Dennison ALD watches with the Tiger Eye stone dial, the two watches from afar would probably look alike but when you look closer at the dial they aren’t. Paired with almost all of their watches, the ADL comes with a leather 20mm strap that tapers down to 16mm. With a lug-less case the watch molds itself to the wrist effortlessly. Powering this this thin watch, which sits at 6.05mm thick, is the Swiss Ronda Quartz movement.
The one I went for was the ALD limited edition Capsule Collection “Dunes in Salmon’. Yes, do the stone dials look beautiful? Of course! But when I saw the Dunes in Salmon, I just couldn’t help myself. The dial is three dimensional, imitating the way the Dunes look in the desert. It comes in a stainless steel polished case paired with the a beautiful beige Croco embossed leather strap with a matching polished steel buckle.
Dennison hasn’t stopped with their hits either. They have released a travel watch that takes a different road than most watches. Instead of going for a GMT function they have gone with a dual time function. Yes, dual time meaning the watch has two watch dials, one on each side. Two watch dials mean two movements in this case. They have managed to fit both the Swiss Ronda movements into the same watch case, with the thickness remaining virtually the same, 6.1mm. The new Dennison ADL Dual Time stays true to the ADL line, with stone dials. You can go with two different stone dials split in the middle, one stone dial for each watch face, or one stone dial. The ADL Dual Time has two crowns, one for each sub-dial time zone, positioned at the 3 o’clock and the 9 o’clock.
When I said the Dennison ADL took the watch market by storm I meant it, it won the 2025 GPHG Challenge Watch Prize. To be precise it was the Dennison ADL Tiger Eye Stone Dial that I mentioned earlier.
