Nomos Glashütte Club Campus 38

As a way to get a hold of younger enthusiasts into the doors of Nomos Glashütte, they decided to release the Club Campus in 2017. A watch that stands true to the bauhaus school of design that Nomos Glashütte is renowned for. With the naming being something as a hint towards its target of a younger generation. Coming in two different case sizes of 36mm and 38mm and more dial colors than a person has fingers. The German watch company offering as well two different kind of movements, an automatic movement and manual winding movement.

For our first wedding anniversary me and my wife were in Dubai walking around Dubai Mall when I saw that inside Mansour Jewellers there was a display for Nomos Glashütte, I had always wanted to see them in person before considering adding one to my collection. We walked in and I saw the Club Campus and wanted to see how it fit on my wrist. They pulled on out of the display and my eyes lit up. Sneakily my wife saw my reaction and decided to get it as an anniversary present.

The one she decided to get me as an anniversary present was the Club Campus 38 Manual Winding with the open case back. Alpha Manual Nomos movement is an in house movement, with a small seconds function and a power reserve of approximately 43 hours. The Club Campus 38 has a push-pull crown with winding the movement happening when the crown is closed. True the watch is a 38mm case but due to the lug to lug width of 49mm the watch feels more like a 40mm or 41mm watch. With a beautiful fill black dial called night, the markers are set different than many others.

Similar to the Panerai California Dial, but done literally in the opposite layout, instead of the top half hour markers being in Roman numerals they’re in Arabic numerals and the second half hour markers being in Arabic numerals they’re in Roman numerals. There is a small seconds dial at the six o’clock hour marker. The hands are plated in rhodium with applied lume on the hour and minute hands and the hour markers as well. The seconds hand in the seconds dial doesn’t have any lume, because it doesn’t need it, its painted in this bright orange make it pop contrasting the color scheme of the dial.

I’ve had the watch for now for almost three years and I love that its in my collection even though I don’t wear it as often as I should be, but I love it even more because it was a present from my watch. What I discovered is the watch is a strap monster, over the last couple of years I’ve had this watch on a leather strap, of a nylon mesh strap, and now its on an orange Delugs DTS rubber strap with the steel buckle. I’ve been a fan of Delugs for years now and have one of their leather straps on my Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic, but when they announced the DTS line of their watch straps I knew I had to get my hand on one or two.

As a starter to watch for the brand Nomos Glashütte oras a starter watch for anyone looking to get into the watch world, the Nomos Club Campus 38 is the perfect example of that. Coming in at a reasonable price for quality craftsmanship. Having a watch with beautiful German craftsmanship and staying true to Bauhaus design makes this watch amazing in its right.
