Seiko Speed Runner

This is hands down the most comfortable watch I have ever worn, and I mean that wholeheartedly. The Seiko Speed Runner SBEF055, is a watch I never thought would be a watch I fall in love with and grab whenever I’m going out or even when I’m just chilling at home.

The watch looks awkward, not going to sugarcoat that, with case being engulfed by the large screen especially the fact the case shape is a bit odd. In a semi carage, semi sideways oval odd mixture case. With a case size of 43.5mm it’s a watch that would normally be way too big for my wrist, but the lugs are part of the case, are short and in a way integrated with the silicone strap the watch came on.

The Seiko SBEF055 is a Japanese Domestic Market only watch, and I had the privilege of being gifted it by my dear friend Salem, a.k.a TokeiRonin. It was a beautiful gesture that I truly appreciated. The version I have is and all black one, black silicon strap and a black case.

 The watch is powered by the S690 Seiko movement, a solar powered watch, something I never experienced.  A watch that charges via light, which means technically I’ll never have to replace the battery, or so I thought until I realized the battery life of a solar powered watch is 7-15 years which is significantly longer than a regular quartz watch.

The functions of the watch make it something of an awesome bang for the buck. Chronograph function recording up to the 1/100^th of a second. Lap memory, being able to record a maximum of 300 laps, not like I could run 300 laps of anything. World time function giving you the time in 44 different countries. Perpetual calendar, backlight function, and most importantly a power and battery level indicator to know when to put the watch under the light to recharge.

Quirky, weird looking, with all those functions, 10 ATM, and is so comfortable I have caught myself falling asleep with it on, makes this watch seriously one of my favorite watches. If you can find the watch online, or know someone going to Japan, don’t think twice about it at all and pull the trigger!
