The G-Shock Competitor, the RZE UTD-8000

So, I’ve always had beef with G-Shock, it’s been a love and hate relationship with the brand. Their designs are rugged and the perfect EDC daily wear, a watch that can be worn throughout the day and doesn’t break the bank. That’s what I used to think until I saw the prices of some of them. That’s why I only have one G-Shock.

Now there is a new contender for the perfect EDC daily wear. Not only the fact it’s a daily watch that can actually take a beating, but because the price isn’t being bloated by hiding behind the hype. The RZE UTD-8000, a digital watch with a titanium case and a fabric “Sport” strap.

The case of the watch is made from grade 2 titanium with a coating of Ultra-hex on top making the watch’s surface hardness about EIGHT times stronger than stainless steel. That’s where the model name comes from UTD (UltraHex Titanium Digital). Sitting at a perfect 42mm and a thickness of 13.4mm makes this watch perfect especially when compared with most G-Shock watches.

As a digital watch, the functions of the watch are numerous. This watch has 12/24 hour format. Chronograph function that can measure up to 1/100^th of a second. The RZE UTD-8000 has a multifunction alarm and an hourly chime function as well. But the calendar function is automized up until the year 2099, which judging by how this watch is built could last until then.

The watch has a water resistance rating of 200m, but that’s not the only thing that this watch can resist. RZE claims that the watch is water, dust, scratches, shock, vibration, and extreme temperature resistant. Considering where I live the last one is going to be tested considering summer temperatures here are well in 50 degrees Celsius. I purchased the watch two days ago and it still hasn’t left my wrist. I can’t emphasize this enough. This watch is an amazing watch especially considering its price and that it is a direct competitor to the legendary G-Shock.
