After the announcement that Dietrich was going to release a new watch I was already very stoked. Since I already own two of their watches, both the OT-4 and the TC-1, which you can read about them and about Dietrich here. The new watch however was something else, a diver! The Dietrich Skin Diver, also known as the SD-1 and it’s their first diver watch. My dear god it’s a beautiful watch.

Coming in two different colors, Pacific Blue and Suave Black. With a case size of 38.5mm it fits perfectly, and I mean perfectly on my wrist. A ceramic bezel insert with a Super-LumiNova markings underneath, but the nice thing about it that might not be visible to the naked eye, but when you feel the bezel you’ll understand. It’s not a normal bezel, usually bezels are circular but with this watch its not exactly that, its more of hexagon shape, paying tribute to the Dietrich logo. But that’s not the only thing about this watch that pays tribute to the company. The hands pay tribute to the Dietrich Organic Time, and the bracelet itself pays tribute to the Dietrich Time Companion.

The hexagon bracelet on the SD-1 is a bit different from the bracelet on the TC-1, for one the bracelet tapers down to 16mm, but even better is the fact you can set the watch down flat. It is such an eye catcher, with most steel bracelets either falling in line with the rest with the market, the hexagon look is just something else.

The SD-1 is powered by the Sellita SW200 automatic movement, with a 38 hour power reserve. The dial is beyond beautiful with a gradient color from black to a whitish grey, with the hour markers and hands on the dial painted with Super-LumiNova, the Pacific Blue has the same gradient dial but instead of black its going to obviously be blue. I have come to the conclusion when it comes to the dials that Dietrich are putting out are beyond beautiful considering the price of these pieces.

As of right now the watches will be shipped to the people who ordered theirs already sometime this December, with the pandemic causing setbacks not only to Dietrich but to the whole industry. The Pacific Blue has already been sold out and if you want one you’re going on the waiting list like everyone else. The one I have ordered and in my humble opinion is the prettiest of the two, the Suave Black, is still available for order.

If you are contemplating on one and not sure yet actually considering getting one, the way it sits on the wrist is beautiful and needless to say that I truly love the watch and what the brand stands for.
